Kelowna, BC – GonzoOkanagan.com is excited to announce the Gonzo Okanagan People’s Choice Music Awards 2023 nominees! In March, residents of the Thompson Okanagan were given the opportunity to nominate their favourite musicians and music industry professionals. An overwhelming response was received.
“We receive almost 3000 nominations, more than expected for this first annual event,” said organizer Brad Krauza. “It is great to see the community, fans, and friends come together to support the Thompson Okanagan music industry. We would like to thank everyone that participated.”
The purpose of the Gonzo Okanagan People’s Choice Music Awards is to celebrate the musicians and industry professionals that bring joy into our daily lives, bring our communities together, and in appreciation of their hard work. Music is an essential part of society—it brings people together, it defines our culture, it induces healing, and gives us freedom of expression. It is critical that we celebrate it. From the musicians that light up our local venues to those touring across the country, every one of them is important to us for many different reasons.
The ultimate favourites will be awarded and recognized for their achievements at the red-carpet gala that takes place on June 16th at Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club in Kelowna, BC. The event, hosted by Master of Ceremonies Sydney Morton from CHBC Global Okanagan, will include entertainment with comedian David Kopp, a drum circle with Bobby Bovenzi, and musical performances by Dirt Road Opera, Rhindress, and Leila Neverland. Dinner and beverages will be available to purchase from the Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club menu.

Kelowna, BC – GonzoOkanagan.com announces the full lineup of entertainment for the Gonzo Okanagan People’s Choice Music Awards red carpet gala that takes place on June 16th at Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club in Kelowna. The event, hosted by Master of Ceremonies Sydney Morton from CHBC Global Okanagan, will open followed by live entertainment and announcements of the award winners.
Joining Morton on stage will be local comedian David Kopp from KelownaComedy.ca. Take your seat, order drinks and dinner and get ready for some laughs as Kopp gets the crowd ready for a fantastic evening of live music and musical appreciation—with performances by Bobby Bovenzi, Dirt Road Opera, Rhindress, and Leila Neverland.
- Master rhythm instructor and owner operator of Nankama World Beat, Bobby Bovenzi from Okanagan Falls, will lead audience members into a lively drum circle in celebration of music and community—demonstrating all our hearts can beat as one.
- Dirt Road Opera—led by Juno nominees Barry Mathers and Rachel Matkin—graces the stage with extraordinary harmonies, great songwriting, and stellar musicianship. The band welcomes two new brilliant multi-instrumentalists, Robert Bailey and Mike Brown, to the roots/Americana band.
- High energy country rock band, Rhindress, enjoys stirring it up with a touch of folk and Celtic flavours. Their newest album, Cut Flowers, described as a bouquet of Canadian songs, is sure to lift your Canadian spirit. Jim and Kim Rhindress are joined by BCCMA nominee Cyril Schermann, Scott Evans, and Bob Silversides.
- Leila Neverland’s iconic voice, raw stage presence, and soulful performances transcend all expectations as this composer, pianist, and brilliant vocalist takes you on a journey of musical genius. Uniquely magnificent, Neverland is a gift to all who want to express themselves through music.

Kelowna, BC – Get ready to strut your stuff on the red carpet! GonzoOkanagan.com announces a full evening of celebrations at its inaugural red carpet gala for the Gonzo Okanagan People’s Choice Music Awards! The event original scheduled to take place during GonzoFest, has expanded into a full night of activities that will take place on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club in Kelowna, BC from 6pm-10pm.
Gonzo Okanagan is delighted to have Sydney Morton from CHBC Global Okanagan as Master of Ceremonies. Morton’s love for music has drawn her into the local music scene as a community reporter covering outstanding musicians, artists, and creatives in the valley since 2019. Joining Morton on stage will be special guest presenters, comedian David Kopp, and live musical performances (TBA). The banquet style red carpet gala event will also include dinner and beverages a la carte from the Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club, table and booth displays for all aspects of the music industry, and a networking mix and mingle for fans and musicians alike.
Since March 1st over 500 nominations have been submitted, with more expected to roll in before the March 31 deadline. Voting reopens on April 10th with the top three nominees from each of the many categories, with the winners announced during the June 16th gala.
The Gonzo Okanagan People’s Choice Music Awards gala event is a community initiative bringing fans and musicians together to say “thank you” for the music.
“It’s a way of telling the musicians and music industry in general, we see you, we hear you, and we want to recognize you—and this is what we’re doing,” said event organizer, Brad Krauza.
