Join Moonlight Jazz Society for our 5th concert of the new series at the Vibrant Vine’s speakeasy, Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at 6pm. Featured arranger and Vernon-based trumpeter Joe Auty will lead a three-piece horn group accompanied by piano, bass, and drums to explore the tragic story and life of legendary trumpet player Clifford Brown.
Brown left a massive imprint on music in his short lifespan, dying at age 25. Even though he died young, Brown was an incredibly respected and universally loved musician. The tribute concert will be a jovial affair focused on celebrating his music, his life, and his musical innovation.
Auty is a freelance trumpet player and has worked in Canada and the US for many years. Auty leads the French Quarter a New Orleans based jazz group, and Souldified a Neo-soul fusion group with internationally renowned saxaphonist Campbell Ryga. He also occasionally hosts the Marmalade Cat Cafe Jazz Jam every third Friday of the month in Kelowna. Auty is joined onstage by trombonist Bob Rogers, tenor saxophone player Craig Thomson, pianist Spencer Dean, upright bassist Alex Argatoff on upright bass, and drummer Neil Gray.
